Question:
I am now in my 23rd week of my second pregnancy. I have a little boy who is about to turn 2. I am a stay-at-home mum and my son is very close to me. When, and how, should my husband and I prepare him for the new baby? My main concern is breastfeeding. I breastfed my first son for 15 months and he's never had a bottle. I'm concerned that when he sees the new baby breastfeeding, he'll want to do the same. Also, we have bought all new furniture for my son's room, due to be delivered a few months before the new baby arrives. However, I'm concerned that once he sees the baby in "his" cot, he will want to return to it. Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Answer:
Of course he'll want to try to breastfeed, and let him. He isn't likely to want to continue. Have something he loves and cuddles ready when you breastfeed, so he can climb up, cuddle next to you and nurse his comforter while you breastfeed your baby. As for his room, let him get used to his new furniture first. Then move his cot into it with him in it. If you can, let him stay in his cot through the difficult transition. Get another cot for the new baby. He won't want to give up his cot and, if possible, he shouldn't have to.
